Binge Eating Disorder - Binge eating disorder is an eating disorder where someone consumes large amounts of food frequently and feels that they are unable to stop eating. This is not the same as having a second or third helping of your favourite meal once in a blue moon. For some people, overeating happens often and can make the person feel they have no control. They may feel embarrassed but won't be able to resist the urge and will continue binge eating.
Symptoms:
- Eating unusually large amounts of food in a short amount of time (i.e. a 2 hour period)
- Feeling that your eating behavior is out of control
- Eating even when you're full or not hungry
- Eating rapidly during binge episodes
- Eating until you're uncomfortably full
- Frequently eating alone or in secret
- Feeling depressed, disgusted, ashamed, guilty or upset about your eating
- Frequently dieting, possibly without weight loss
